Rebirth – Inner Transformation & Yoga Retreat
Desert journey
About the retreat:
A 9 day retreat experience in the Saharan desert to disconnect from any distraction, to recognize the vastness of nature as a reflection of our own potential and the opportunity to return to our center and regain our own power.
We leave our daily life and make the exciting and adventurous way on camels into the desert camp to explore our purpose of life in a new way. We are without distraction, disconnected from our agenda and every day life rhythm, and we come back to simply being with ourselves and in the support and trust of a caring retreat family and our loving local hosts.
Presence. Perceive the vastness of the desert, the greatness of the star filled sky.
In that moment we are capable of understanding that the whole universe is inside of us. That we are creators. We can have a most expansive inner experience, which we will support through the yogic and therapeutic practices of our retreat program, that we call Rebirth 1.
Those inspiring practices that go beyond the physical asana practice purify on a subtle level. Yoga, Morning Sadhana and Meditation, Mantra and Gong, Pranayama, Therapeutic work as well as silence and somatic movement help us to reach a state of emotional silence where we can listen to our heart and intuition , where we can rebirth in balance and centred in our power.

Day 1 – Salam Aleikum Morocco
Today you go on your way into the desert. How did you decide? If you come by domestic flight from Casablanca to Errachidia, the transfer takes you deep into the desert region to the Merzouga oasis (approximately two hours drive). The domestic flight lands in Errachidia at 00:50 a.m. the following day.
Arrival in Merzouga is, therefore, late at night. The driver is waiting for you and the other participants. If you come to Merzouga by bus from one of the royal cities, you will be picked up from the bus stop. On the way, it goes through small Kasbah villages and past beautiful palm groves. The first night is in Hotel Kanz Erremal on the edge of the desert.
Day 2 – Welcome to the Oussidi family
You start the day with breakfast together with a view of the dunes. In the morning, you ride your camels to the desert camp. A wonderfully fresh lunch awaits you there and the Oussidi family, who will look after you during your stay in the desert. After you have settled in at the camp, we will have an opening circle to get to know each other and enjoy your first yoga class in the desert. Let the desert affect you and immerse yourself in the silence. After dinner, you say goodbye to the day with a colorful sunset. Around the campfire, you enjoy the night sky dotted with millions of stars along with traditional Berber drums and music.
Day 3 – Grounding
The day starts with a tea ceremony in the heart of the desert camp. Right after, let us meet for a yoga and meditation practice with a view of the endless expanse of the desert. Afterwards we strengthen ourselves with a delicious breakfast.
After a bit of free time we come together as a group for a workshop that will help us ground.
The desert gong heralds lunch and you will be spoiled with traditional Berber delicacies.
Now your individual free time begins. What are you after? The possibilities are great. Hear Barak’s stories about Morocco and the desert. Exchange ideas in our retreat family, read in a shady place, listen to the silence in meditation, or enjoy a desert walk to Barak’s Dune.
In the afternoon we come together for yoga class again. After the class, Barak’s nephews wait with drums around the crackling campfire while dinner is already being prepared in the kitchen. We enjoy dinner and have an early night, ending the day with a view of the breathtaking starry sky.
Days 4 to 6 – The silence of the desert and rebirth
The days start early underneath the stars with Morning Sadhana including Kundalini practices, Meditation and Kriyas, allowing us to accompany the sun in its awakening. We have a tea ceremony in the heart of the desert camp. Right after, we dive into our Yoga class with a view of the endless expanse of the desert before strengthening ourselves with a delicious and well deserved breakfast.
Now your individual free time begins. The desert gong heralds lunch and you will be spoiled with traditional Berber delicacies again.
After Lunch we dive into our daily workshops including therapeutic work, study, group sessions of movement, chanting or listening to each other. The last of the 3 days will be a silent day where you will simply be guided in practices and will have time to reflect, enjoy yourself and your inner peace.
After the workshops and a tea break we come together for yoga class again. We enjoy dinner and have an early night, ending the day with a view of the breathtaking starry sky.
Day 7 – Integration in the camp
The day starts with a tea ceremony in the heart of the desert camp. Right after, let us meet for a yoga and meditation practice with a view of the endless expanse of the desert. Afterwards we strengthen ourselves with a delicious breakfast.
After a bit of free time we come together to chant mantra as a way to find our way out of the 24 hours of silence that we started the previous day.
The desert gong heralds lunch and you will be spoiled with traditional Berber delicacies again.
We will use the afternoon for a sharing circle, somatic practices and Yoga. After the class, Barak’s nephews wait with drums around the crackling campfire while dinner is already being prepared in the kitchen. We enjoy dinner. The day ends with a view of the breathtaking starry sky once again.
Day 8 – Farewell to the Oussidi family
After morning yoga in the desert, you return to Merzouga with the camels. In the village, you will take a tour of the oasis. You are treated to a traditional Berber meal in their house by the Oussidi family. Afterward, you visit the children’s project, which was founded by Barak Oussidi and a Berber cooperative that offers traditional handicrafts. In the afternoon, you practice yoga one last time, dinner, and overnight we will stay in the kasbah.
Day 9 – Goodbye Sahara
For the air travelers, it goes to Aéroport Errachidia Moulay Ali Chérif (ERH) in the early morning. You will experience one last spectacular sunrise and the panorama of the palm gardens. Sahara Yoga will take the bus travelers to the bus stop.
Our tip:

Or would you like to make your desert trip something very special? Then we recommend that you spend two to three nights in our glamping tents in the middle of the desert before or after your desert trip, in the most magical places in the deep silence of the desert.
